Is there any such thing as a distinctly Western civilization and if so what is it and when did it happen? Are the habits and mindsets we call Western civilization something to be celebrated, deplored or mourned? This course is a general survey of the origins of European culture from the Ancient Greeks until recent times, with particular emphasis on the role played by the people of the Dark Ages, Middle Ages and Renaissance. Suitable for those who have not studied History more recently.
