Hooded Americanism: A Short History of the Ku Klux Klan (H250.02)

Vacancies

With its white hoods and burning crosses, the Ku Klux Klan is America's oldest and best-known white supremacist movement, and until recently its most important domestic terrorist group. Since 1866, there have been four periods of Klan activity – the 1860s-70s; the 1920s; the 1950s and 60s; and since the mid-1970s.
This lecture-based course will explore the history of the Ku Klux Klan, looking at its characteristics in each period, why its popularity and influence has waxed and waned, and where it stands in today's expanding universe of right-wing domestic terrorism in America.
No prior knowledge is required.
