This course is a history of Aboriginal Australia, from first settlement of the continent until the coming of the Europeans. Topics include : how and when the continent was first occupied, prehistoric art, the extinction of the megafauna, trade, technology and subsistence and Tasmania's people isolated from the world for 14,000 years. It starts with one session about archaeology in Australia and how it enables us to write this history. It is illustrated with many Powerpoint photos and there is a library of books to borrow. This is a unique course about the 70,000 years of human history in Australia; a subject that is rarely, if ever, available to study in Canberra.
