U3A ACT advertises such activities in good faith because they might be of interest to U3A members, but accepts no responsibility for their outcome. Do not send payment to U3A. Persons wishing to book or obtain further information should follow the instructions.

National Trust Tours

The National Trust (ACT) reserves a few spaces on each of their tours and events for U3A members. U3A members are entitled to book by ringing the National Trust office (6230 0533) during business hours. Leaflets giving all necessary information about each activity are posted to applicants prior to the event. If you wish to book, payment may be made by cash, cheque or credit card to the National Trust (ACT), PO Box 1144, Civic Square ACT 2608. Please note that, if paying in person, the office is located at Unit 3.09, Level 3, Griffin Centre, 20 Genge St, Canberra City. Opening hours are Monday to Thursday 9.30am to 3.00pm. When booking, please ensure that you give your full name, address and home phone number, your dietary/mobility/pick-up requirements (if any), plus the names of others you may be booking for. Cheques should be made payable to National Trust (ACT), not to U3A! If paying by credit card (possible by phone) please state type of card, card number, expiry date and name of cardholder.

Yarrangobilly and the northern Kosciuszko National Park - Self-Drive & Self-Catering Tours

Group 1: Tuesday - Thursday, 13 - 15 March ; OR
Group 2: Thursday - Saturday, 15 to -17 March 2018

Both these back-to-back, self-drive & self-catering tours, focus on two nights’ accommodation in the historic, beautifully restored, Yarrangobilly Caves House or the adjacent Lyrebird Cottage.

  • The Group 1 itinerary includes, on Tuesday, travel as a spaced convoy from Cotter to Tumut via Brindabella, followed by visits to Blowering & Talbingo Dams, arriving at Yarrangobilly in time for a walk to, & possibly a swim in, the Thermal Pool. The Wednesday program starts with a cave inspection, followed by a drive over the Long Plain to historic ‘Coolamine’ Homestead & a visit to The Blue Waterholes. After checking out on Thursday morning, Groups 1 & 2 will link up at Providence Portal, before jointly visiting Tantangara Dam & historic ‘Currango’ Homestead. Group 1 returns independently to Canberra that afternoon via Adaminaby & either Namadgi NP or Cooma.
  • The Group 2 itinerary is basically the reverse. Independent driving to Providence Portal, just past Adaminaby via either Namadgi NP or Cooma, followed by the joint visit to Tantangara Dam & ‘Currango’ Homestead, arriving at Yarrangobilly in time for a walk to, & possibly a swim in, the Thermal Pool. The Friday program starts with a cave inspection, followed by a drive over the Long Plain to historic ‘Coolamine’ Homestead & a visit to The Blue Waterholes. After checking out on Saturday morning, the return to Canberra will be via Talbingo & Blowering Dams to Tumut & then, as a spaced convoy, back to Canberra via Brindabella & Cotter.

Costs: The total tour price will vary according to the specific accommodation offered & some yet-to-be-resolved inclusions, but should range between about $155 for the cheapest single room to $240pp for the dearest double/twin room. Individual balances (taking account of deposits already paid) will be advised in early December.

Opera, Concert & Greenway Feast Tour 2018

Wednesday - Thursday 21 - 22 March 2018

Itinerary:

  • Wednesday 7.30pm: Opera Australia’s performance of Massenet‘s "Don Quichotte";
  • Thursday 1.30pm: Anne Sofie von Otter singing Schubert with the SSO plus Schubert’s Rosamunde and Mahler's Symphony No. 10;</b> and
  • Visits to three Francis Greenway buildings – the Old Goulburn Brewery (BYO lunch on Wednesday) plus guided tours of the Hyde Park Barracks & St James Church King Street (Thursday morning).

Apart from opera & concert tickets, the confirmed tour prices will cover return coach transport, overnight DBB accommodation at the North Sydney Harbourview Hotel, transfers to/from both opera & concert, the 3 Greenway tours, plus a quick dinner in Mittagong on the return trip.

Departure is expected around 10.30am from Deakin (followed by Civic and Ainslie), with return to Canberra around 9.15pm on Thursday night.

Costs: The tour price is expected to be around $775 or $715pp (for sgl accom with A or B-Reserve opera/concert seats) or around $645 or $585pp (for dbl/twin accom with A or B-Reserve opera/concert seats). Final prices will be confirmed in the Jan/Feb issue of U3A News.

Aida Opera Tour 2018

Saturday 4 August 2018

Bookings are now being accepted to the matinee performance of Opera Australia’s ‘Aida’ at the Sydney Opera House.

This will be a one-day tour, in one or two coaches as dictated by demand, with pick-ups from Deakin at 7.10am, followed by Civic and Lyneham.

Cost: The tour price of $315pp for A-Reserve opera seats, or $275pp for B-Reserve seats, includes morning tea and dinner with wine at Mittagong on the way home. There will be sufficient time for you to purchase lunch, or consume your own BYO lunch, prior to the 1.00pm opera start.
